RIVER CROSSING POTENTIAL SURVEYS

Cathodic protection structure to soil potential surveys are mandated in many parts of the world.  River and water body crossing potential surveys are generally part of this regulation and require a specific level of expertise.

While surveys of shallow crossings can often be undertaken by walking the crossing, deeper waters require a different approach.  Divers, ROV equipment or dragging a reference electrode over the pipeline are some options for these deeper crossings.

Working with professional dive and marine personnel in North and South America, Cybex U.S. Corp. has undertaken hundreds of river crossing potential surveys.  These crossings include the Mississippi River, the international border rivers such as the Niagara, St. Clair, St. Lawrence and St. Mary’s and the Magdalena River, the largest river in Colombia.

Note that the underwater surveys may also include pipeline depth of cover, bathymetry, underwater video and bank erosion assessment.  Modern day practices now commonly utilize multi beam sonar for trench erosion and 3D bathymetry of the crossings.
